Fong Sai Yuk (1993)

There are some unrealistic aspects about Fong Sai Yuk, for instance at the beginning of the movie the character jumps over twenty feet in the long jump while standing perfectly still, which is totally impossible. Nevertheless, most fans are accustomed to seeing Jet Li perform incredible and impossible feats, so they do not detract from the movie's quality. The director uses wires for many of the scenes, but in a tasteful and conservative manner. The cinematography is very good and the director delivered a great movie that is fun for anyone.

The ending of the movie and the transition to the credits is clever. Instead of just fading to the credits like most movies, Fong Sai Yuk acknowledges the cast and crew on the list of names for the Red Flower Society, which fits perfectly with the plot. It is smaller details such as the blending of the credits with the movie's plot that make Fong Sai Yuk an excellent movie. Jet Li does a great job in a role that might remind many fans of Jackie Chan's slapstick style of kung fu comedy.
