Post Y2K Buying

There had been several reports from companies selling non-electrical equipment, generators, etc., during 1999, stating that sales had increased by 50% or more due to fears over Y2K. Since nothing (that I am aware of) happened when the clock hit midnight on December 31, 1999, I can't help but to wonder what will happen to all of those purchased products. My guess is that we will soon be seeing classified ads and such for a great deal of them.

If you've not yet purchased a wood burner or wood cook stove, for example, this coming year should offer up many opportunities for you. I'll bet my bottom dollar that around half of those heating/cooking units purchased last year haven't been, nor will they be, installed.

Say you've been having visions of generators dancing in your head. Well, keep your eyes and ears open because purchased but not used units should be popping up quite regularly.

And if you're in need of new non-electrical kitchen equipment -- grinders, pressure canners and the like -- make the time to go to advertised garage, yard and tag sales in your area. Moving sales should be at the very top of your list as these will provide the best pickings for such items.

Before you start hooting and hollering with glee over finding a "great deal" on the item or items you find, please do your homework. Check out the retail prices through places like Cumberland Store at http://cumberlandgeneral.com/ or Homestead Products at http://www.teleport.com/~dany/

Mind you, I'm not saying that we should be prepared to take advantage of people who had paid top dollar for things due to their fear of Y2K. I'm only suggesting that this will be a great year for us homesteading folks to find great deals on the items we use on a regular basis.
