Gardening Angel Candle Jar

With spring just around the corner and the anticipation of the gardening season upon us I thought of this fun and easy craft to make with just a ordinary jar, you know we all have them cluttering up our house until the “canning” season starts. What to do with them until that time. Well I have come up with something cute to ornate our kitchen windows with.

Our basic materials I will try to keep simple. One empty clean jar, almost any size will due. Raffia, Folk Art acrylic paint in colors, green meadow, icy white, mint green, butter-cream, burnt sienna, and black cherry. Your brushes I would recommend a flat chisel blender, a liner brush, and a round brush. Some swatches of gingham material in any color coordinated pattern. A pair of pinking shears. Scissors, a small 3 inch piece of ruffle lace. A votive candle, and small votive glass holder. Some curly raffia hair or some red bumples or lil loopies doll hair. Hot glue gun. Some type of filler for your jar any kitchen item you may like such as colored pasta and such. Paint sealer such as ceramcoat.

First I want to get started painting our jar. Now what I want you to do is outline a head with your liner brush and round the shoulders off and follow that all the way down to the bottom of the jar. Now you want to take your chisel brush and your green meadow and base coat this body of the angel. You will probably have to do this several times. Let this dry for a few hours. Now take your butter-cream and your round brush and thinly base-coat the face. You may mix a hint of the burnt sienna in with this to give it some added color. Allow to dry. Now for the bottom of the angel take the burnt sienna and the butter- cream and make a checkerboard pattern at the bottom, you may also wish to get a stencil template at your local craft store if it makes it easier. I would suggest a small checkerboard pattern of 2-3 rows at the bottom.

Now in the middle take your liner brush and make a square outline as if your angel is holding a sign. Fill in and base-coat with the mint green. Allow to dry. Now for the face take your liner brush and dot two eyes with the black cherry and make fine lines for the eyelashes and eyebrows. For the cheeks a little dab of water on the burnt sienna for rosy cheeks. You can also dot some freckles on if you like.

For the green body take the bottom of your liner brush and dot on mint green in 3's three dots in
