Victorian Centerpiece Angels

Nov 4, 2000 - © Valerie Casper

With the holidays upon us I wanted to allow for holiday themed projects until after Christmas. I have found several beautiful projects in which to write about. This particular one is a very dear one to me. I actually just finished this very project today, and it makes a nice afternoon project.

When we think about the Victorian era we can imagine all sorts of things really but foremost what comes to mind is the beauty and grace of that era in history. Another thing that comes to mind is the elegance of that time of yesterday. With this angel project I want to incorporate some of that old history with the new of today.

The supplies needed for this project are very similar to those for tree top angels. But with a few changes and maybe a bit more elaborate as well. I am the tool for your creativity in that I plant the idea and you cultivate that idea into your own creation.

You will need two yards of four inch lace, one forth a yard of white satin, scissors, hot glue gun, four inch puffy gold angel wings, porcelain angel head and arms package. One yard white and gold braided cord, twelve inch plastic angel cone, tacky glue, and needle and thread. What I like to do first is to get the sewing out of the way, that way you can create away. Personally I do my sewing on the machine but you can also do this by hand if you so choose to. I take the white satin and hem all edges and I use the whole amount as to make a really full dress for my angel. After that is done take the lace and make a running stitch about two inches down below the top, and you will use the whole two yards on this. Now take the cone and tacky glue the porcelain head on top of the cone and set this aside for a while to dry. When this is dry take the piece of satin and make a running stitch on the top of it, and tie off the end. Now hot glue this on below the angel head on the cone. Now take the lace and put around the base of the neckline on the angel and tie on with the braided cord. Now hot glue the gold puffy wings to the back of the angel. You may also choose to further embellish your angel with flowers or ribbons,
