Display Ideas For Your Science Fair Project

Your display can make or break your project. All the hard work you have done is represented by your display. Even if you have worked very hard on your project, a sloppy display can ruin all your hard work. Below are some suggestions for a neat, informative display.
Display suggestions:

  • Be sure to measure your display and check, check and check again that it meets the size requirements for your particular fair.
  • Before tacking any part of the project permanently to your display, stand back and take a long look at it. All parts of the display should be laid out before the double stick tape comes off of the roll. Be sure that the project title is no too long and that it has the largest lettering on the entire display.
  • Don't have large empty spaces on your backboard.
  • Be sure you don't have any wires hanging across your project. Holes should be made in your backboard so any wires can be slipped through the back of the display.

  • Your display should not require the use of dangerous chemicals or fire.
  • Your display should look organized and well thought out.
  • Be sure to include both your journal and your report. The journal is a notebook that you will enter all of the information about your project as it occurs. The report is normally a typed an organized version of the journal.
  • Don’t use glue to attach your project pieces to the display. Glue will wrinkle your project papers. Use rubber cement or double stick tape.
  • Use a ruler and chalk to mark where each piece should go before removing the untaped pieces. Then apply the tape and place the pieces on your marks.
  • Try to have an eye catching title.
  • Try to include photos of your actual experiment.
  • Clip art or shape cut outs can really ad to a display. Be sure these enhancements are size appropriate.
  • Instead of having a plain white background, cover your panels with contact paper, paint, felt or other cloth.
  • Make sure your background color and letter contrast each other. If your background is bright yellow, black lettering would look nice.
  • Use colored paper instead of plain, or back your plain paper with a piece of colored paper leaving a 1/4" boarder around your plain page of text.
