A Very Fond Farewell

The toughest lesson I had to learn during my first marriage was knowing when to quit talking and walk away, leaving things unsaid and undone for another day, or to be long forgotten and passed out of memory. I have learned since that it is usually better to walk away when the next thing I would have to say would maybe not be as productive and helpful as I might temporarily believe. I am now at that point with this column. Believe me, it is not easy to walk away from here. I have had a great run here, enjoying having my say, and enjoying the opinions presented to me by others (both positive and negative) you have helped me, one and all. I sincerely hope I have helped, in return. However, I think, given the parameters of this particular arena, I have said about all there is to say. I am hoping to go on to finish several fiction-writing projects I have been working on, possibly getting something actually published in the hard-copy world. I must really thank Suite101.com for backing this column all the way, and actually paying me to write it. I can't think of anything else I have done which I have enjoyed more. The support I have gotten from Suite has always been appreciated, and could not have been given more graciously. Even though the economy has taken a bit of a nap recently, I hope parents will continue to begin and to see their homeschooling through this tricky period. I believe that it is the finest gift to our children, to carefully watch over their education as well as other aspects of their lives. It is an act of love, as well as a tremendous committment and a gift. Even though I will miss writing this column, I believe it is time to move on. As Khalil Gibran has said, "For the world is a circle, and that place which seems like the end may merely be the start of the next beginning". So it is with me, and so, I hope, a joyous start for all the rest of you.
