When Homeschool Parents Have to Work

with the profits returned is what every good business does, and a family should be run (with or without a working mom, or dad if he's the one who gets to be with the kids) equally with profit vs. loss in mind. I am reminded of a television show a while back which showed a family of three how much money they could SAVE if Mom gave up her day job. They focused on how much both of them were spending on lunches and dinners and the extra travel involved, plus that income tax bugaboo at the end of the year. Yeah, that's what I thought, too, they could cook at home and take a lunch, plus find a carpool buddy or whatever, but it seemed Mom really wanted to stay home with the boy so I was all for it. The last they showed of the family, Mom was pregnant again, so we learned that all money eventually goes down the drain. All this pain we experience over it is wasted energy, I suppose. However, when it is ten degrees outside, it would be a lot more fun doing laundry here than having to pack it all up, get a ride a mile away, wash it, dry it, repack it and go home. Doing that three times a week is getting mighty old, and my brother has been hinting (not so broadly) that it is high time we got our own washer. I wonder, at this point, how many of us are working because our husband insists he needs more material goods. I know quite a few women who would quit working instantly if their husband said he didn't need to continue his lifestyle the way he is currently living it. These are women who would gladly "do without" if they could go home and raise their families in peace, with the attention and time needed to raise decent kids and make an oasis of peace for their husband to return to after working all day. In my own situation, I know my husband misses coming home after working in the cold all day, to a hot cup of coffee and a nice hot bath waiting for him. I miss taking care of him this way, but the greater good always requires some sacrifice. The one thing I wish I had a lot more of is time. Of course,
