Aconite is very useful if there is inflammation of the throat - but not just any kind of inflammation - that which is usually found in a healthy person who has been out in the cold, or been exposed to extremes in temperature, and that night has awoken with a sore throat involving intense thirst.

Similarly with the eyes. If there is sudden inflammation with no discharge brought on by the sudden cold outside then Aconite is the remedy to give.

It is also an excellent remedy to take if experiencing chest troubles, as in pneumonia. Such a person is unable to lie on either of his sides because the pains are increased. He can only lie on his back.

According to Dr Kent and Dr Boericke, 'great fear, foreboding, anxiety or anguish of mind is associated with Aconite.'

It has to be said that not all of these symptoms have to be present for the remedy to work (grin).

As hard as it is to try and give a full picture of a remedy, because of its similarity to other remedies that produces similar symptoms, it is hoped that I have at least given you a better understanding of the remedy, Aconite.

Next month's article will be on the remedy Sulphur, because of its similarity to Aconite although it goes much further.

Until then, take care.
