ACONITE - symptoms that come on suddenly© Christine Wyndham-Thomas Over the past few months I have written a brief description of a variety of remedies that can be used for a number of ailments. I appreciate that for those of you who are new to Homeopathy, such a concept that one tablet can be given to treat a number of differing ailments can be a little confusing, but Aspirin is used in a similar manner. It, too, is not properly understood even though it's widely used in medical treatment. Interestingly, a German chemist Felix Hoffmann developed it in 1897. Also, as far back as 5BC, Hipocrates, known as the Father of Modern Medicine, was fully aware of the properties of the Willow bark, which Aspirin originates from. In Homeopathy it is the symptoms of a person that are taken into account, not the name of the illness, or the disease itself. It is said that Samuel Hahnemann experimented on taking various substances and then noting the symptoms that occurred. This he did not only on himself but on others as well. The only requirement was they had to be in good health. All the symptoms were then noted. That substance was then made homeopathically into a cure - hence the explanation why one tablet can cure many symptoms! The following remedy, Aconite, which has been written about previously, is now more fully described in relation to the symptoms and the change in the character type of a person requiring this remedy. In Homeopathic terms, such information would be found in the Materia Medica - a book listing a group of overall symptoms, together with its remedy. ACONITE Aconite is a quick-acting remedy and is more suited to symptoms that come on suddenly. According to Dr. James Tyler Kent (1849-1916) ". . . the plethoric and vigorous, who have a strong heart, active brain, vigorous circulation, and come down suddenly from violent exposure, that need Aconite..." - not necessarily from the cold weather of winter, but also from the hot weather of summer. In relation to mental symptoms, you will find that these are intense. It has an intensity not met with in other remedies; almost exaggerated, but not. Dizziness can also be a symptom suited to Aconite - but a marked dizziness, i.e., once felt it would be impossible to ignore. You would not be able to balance or walk properly. If a headache is experienced then this, too, would be quite intense and felt over the eyes. Go To Page: 1 2
