Remedies - A Basic Understanding

WELCOME to the world of Homeopathic Remedies, in which plants, insects, animal parts, poisons, and even pure paraffine are used.

Samuel Christian Hahnemann (a German physician) worked on the theory that in nature could be found that which would produce symptoms in a healthy person similar to those found in a patient with an illness, and that when that substance was prepared homeopathically, it effected a cure.

The testing of a substance on a healthy person to observe its symptoms is called a 'proving'. When that substance is then prepared homeopathically and given as a remedy to a patient displaying similar symptoms to the 'proving', it will effect a cure. For example - coffee is known to have the effect of keeping a person awake; so, homeopathically preparing coffee and giving it as a remedy to an insomniac who is basically suffering sleeplessness from a normal situation, would cure or, at the very least, help relieve the problem.

A Special Place
The remedies deserve their own Special Place. Store them in a cool dark place, on their own, and away from strong-smelling substances.

Choosing the right remedy
(Remedy - 'to repair', in this case, within oneself.)
Observe your physical and mental symptoms, and the times and/or the circumstances in which you feel better, if only slightly, and in which you feel worse. This information is necessary if the correct remedy is to be chosen.

When to take a remedy
Not the same as taking tablets - the whole concept is different - tablets are taken until you recover; remedies, until there's improvement. However, if there's then no further improvement, or a relapse occurs, then recommence taking it.

The remedy appears not to be working
1. Perhaps wrong remedy if no improvement within a few days or, in some cases, within a few hours. (Depending on the nature of the symptoms, could take a few weeks.)
2. Many substances antidote remedies (prevents them from working): coffee (except Dandelion Coffee); certain additives, particularly Aspartame; Aromatherapy Oils, highly perfumed cosmetics and toiletries, and strongly smelling household cleaners; some toothpastes, and certain orthodox tablets.
3. If you have the right remedy and it isn't being antidoted, then take a higher potency or increase the dose (if taking a 6c/12c potency, increase to 30c. If already taking 30c, then take it more frequently.)

Symptoms become worse
Stop taking the remedy. If improvement then occurs, leave off the remedy. If there is then no further improvement or the symptoms remain worse, try a different remedy. If that doesn't work, consult a qualified Homeopathist.
