Thanksgiving dinner for the high-chair set
For Established Eaters
Babies who have tried most single-item foods, and are ready for a bit more creativity (generally 7 to 9 months old)
You may combine any of the above purees, as long as Baby has already tried the ingredients individually and are not allergic to them. Try these recipes:
Sweet Potatoes and Apples
Mix a serving of sweet potato puree with a serving of apple puree. Add a dash of cinnamon.
Vegetable Squash
Halve a butternut squash and remove seeds. Dice one zucchini (leave the skin on -- it contains nutrients) and one-half of a red bell pepper. Toss the zucchini and red bell pepper with one tablespoon of apple juice and spoon into the squash. Place on a baking sheet and cover with foil. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. Scoop everything out of the squash shells and puree.
Green Beans and Potato
Mix one serving of green beans with one serving of potato and serve.
Sweet Potatoes and Tofu
Mix one serving of sweet potatoes with 1 to 2 tablespoons of silken tofu. Add a little cinnamon for a special treat. Tofu can also be mixed with any other fruit or vegetables you wish to serve your baby for a great protein punch.
Pumpkin Pie Of-My-Eye Dessert
Mix one serving of pumpkin with 1 to 2 tablespoons (to your liking) of plain low-fat or whole-fat yogurt. Add a little cinnamon and nutmeg for a complete pumpkin dessert for Baby!
For the Meat Eaters
Generally 9 months and older
Turkey and Pears
Take some cooked turkey and a diced, cooked pear (or nicely-ripened pear, uncooked) and puree in your blender, food processor or food mill. Ground turkey is easier to use, but, hey, us meat-eaters eat the real deal on this holiday, so go for it! If your baby is eating pastas, add a little couscous on the side with this dish.
You may have some baby food leftovers to freeze for a later date when all is said and done. Do not freeze meat that has already been frozen prior to cooking. And, if the leftovers came in contact with the spoon that went into Baby's mouth, throw the food out. Bacteria grows awfully fast on food that has been introduced to saliva.
Above all, relax and enjoy your baby,
