No Room At The ShelterThe governor did not come out to greet the protestors. It would have been nice if he had shown them he cared. No one from the State Senate or House of Representatives spoke to the group. And yet they remained at their evening vigil in the freezing cold hoping some where someone would care enough to fight for more shelters, and for apartments for low income workers. Across the United States request for shelter increased 13 to 25% and yet the shelters remained stagnant. There was no money to expand them. And it wasn't just large cities, but smaller suburban areas as well. Even people formerly in the middle class are feeling the effects of layoffs. Bankruptsies and foreclosures have increased. If you care, call or write your local legislator and ask what he or she is doing to help the homeless. Let this new year be a year of action for our brothers and sisters left out in the cold. I've included links at the end of this article for more information on homelessness in America and what you can do to help those less fortunate. Make this a good year for everyone.
