What You Can Do to Help Homeless Children at ChristmasThe Boston program grew so much they had to use the Expo Center for the party which included 1,250 children.They had games, rides, performers, a huge meal, even free haircuts. The gifts also included extras such as stuffed animals, hats, mittens,-shirts and educational toys. Over 600 volunteers made this possible. This included adults as well as high school and junior high students. The Boston program now includes a Birthday surprise and parent seminars. These educational programs are to help people make the transition from shelter to independent living as well as from assistance to jobs. Recognizing the need for day care for mothers to return to work, they started the Lifehouse Shelter. http://www.ultranet.com/~citc/ Providence House Sells Cards as Fund Raiser. These are very special cards. They are self-portraints made by the children in the shelter and sold for $10 as part of a fund raiser. the cards are in full color and are 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". The artist's name is on the back along with a brief profile of what the child likes to do and what the child hopes to become. The cards are sold in sets of 10 for $10 and are good for any time of the year. They also have polo shirts for sale. The group also runs a fund raiser each year with the hope of reaching hundreds of thousands of dollars in contributions. Like the other programs described here they have a goal of helping a family move from homelessness to self-sufficiency. The goal of the organization is to educate the publlic about homeless families with children, and involve the community in solving the problem. Their Christmas Fund Raiser is called, "A Gift Twice Blessed." People can honor the memory of a friend or relative with a donation in their name. http://www.providencehouseshreve.com/fun... Thank you, Rick Brogan They adopted five hundred inncer city children and provide Christmas gifts and dinner for 1000 homeless. They provide toys for other needy children as well. They also stock the Itasca Food Pantry. This is a hands on program. Officers become involved with local youth programs and sports outings. They also offer drug prevention educational classes and drunk driving prevention. They assist the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, The Marklund Children's Home & Special Olympics program as well as several Local Home assistance Programs.
