The council has gone further by setting up both a food bank and clothing bank. The poor who have apartments or rooms but need help can pick up emergency food supplies at the food bank. They can select good used clothing, even some brand new clothing at the clothing bank.

During harvest season there is a Farmer's Market run by the Manchester Area Council of Churches. Those in need are given food vouchers which they can use at the Market to purchase fresh vegetables and fruit.

For other poor people who have shelter but limited resources, there is the lunchtime food kitchen where they get a hot meal free. If there is enough food, they might receive a take home bag with a sandwich for their dinner. This soup kitchen is also open in the summer for children who normally receive a free hot lunch in school.

If you want more information on homelessness in America and what you can to do to help check out the resource I have listed here.

That resource has many links to other areas including regional efforts to help those who are homeless. If you wish to do something to help, this is the place to start. What can you do? Donate good women's clothing to the Sister project which provides women with business clothes for job interviews.

You can make a large tray of brownies, cookies or other item and bring it to the soup pantry in your area. If there is no community program check with your church for resources.
