Here are some tips for easy wall decorating ideas with a great impact.
Wall Art Using Frames
- Make 3-D artwork by mounting favorite mementos inside standard frames—and skip the glass.
- Using a level and the frames as a guide, mark “mats” directly on the wall with a hard lead pencil, then paint inside the lines. Nail the frames over the painted "mat" and customize the wall inside the frame; use small nails to hang keys, jewelry, and other objects, and use double-backed mounting tape to position photos within the frame.
- Center a photograph you have enlarged and cropped. For antique photographs or those with sentimental value, consider using a copy. If a picture has a thin backing, dry-mount the photo to cardboard with an acid-free photo-quality spray adhesive (available in photo stores). Hang the photo with mounting tape or squares. To change the display seasonally, use removable tape.
- Create custom stencils for the walls and ceiling, repeating shapes from the chosen theme.
- Hang empty frames on a wall for a sculptural effect. Fill the frames with soft, painted-on colors that pull together the room’s color palette.
- Hang a small ledge within the frame and set a vase of flowers or piece of artwork on it.

- For a relaxed look, toss a pillow down on the seat of a sofa or bench instead of lining up several across the back.
- For softness, drape a quilt or chenille throw off to one side of a sofa or bench.
- To create lively contrast, add flowers for a pop of color.
- For a lived-in look, set bowls of fruit and vegetables in the kitchen.
- To create a focal point, add a large wreath above the fireplace mantel.
- To give your collections greater impact, group them together on a table, mantel, or shelf.
