Fun-and-Fresh Tabletop
Welcome to the new Decorating with the Seasons topic here at Suite101.com. Each month, you'll find ways to incorporate the seasonal beauty of nature into your home decor with inexpensive projects you can do at home. It's fitting that we've chosen the season of spring to launch this topic. As a time of rebirth, the warm days of spring have us all wanting to bring the beauty of nature indoors.

Spring and Easter were practically made for each other. The opening buds on the trees and the blooming flowers in our gardens celebrate the new life that reappears after winter winds stop blowing. One easy way to bring spring's glory into your home decor is with simple flower arrangements. Daffodils, freesias, tulips and hyacinths are classic springtime flowers that add color to any room. With the Easter celebration upon us, why not incorporate the season's beauty into your table setting for the Easter dinner?

Below, we've given you ways to lend your tabletop a breath of fresh spring air this Easter with quick and inexpensive decorating ideas. Perhaps you'll incorporate one or two of these ideas into you place setting this Easter. And be sure to return to Decorating with the Seasons each month for more great projects and ideas that will take you from season to season throughout the year.

An Easter Tabletop Design

*Place a cake stand or glass pedestal in the center of the table. Fill small glass votive candle holders with freshly cut blooms of roses, freesias, and tulips. If you want to add a bit of shimmer to the table, you can use silver mint julep cups in place of the glass votives.

*Set white dinner plates on a white linen tablecloth and add color to the table setting with green salad plates, pink wine and water glasses, colored eggs, and fresh tulip place cards that guests can take home with them.

To make the tulip place cards pictured at left, use a silver or white opaque marking pen to write the name of each guest on the leaf of a freshly cut tulip. Let the name dry. Then tie the tulip onto a napkin and place in the center of the dinner plate.

A Tabletop Meadow

Bring the sights and smells of spring indoors by creating a blooming meadow for your tabletop.

The planting container at right announces spring's arrival with freshly grown grass and blooming spring bulbs. You can create a tabletop meadow in your favorite urn or container.
