Flag Pole Installation Thoughts

I had a very difficult time finding something that I thought was appropriate for discussion following what had happened on Tuesday. With the loss that the nation had felt, most everything else seems kind of trivial.

One thing that I did think about though was all of us that are flying flags right now, and those that wish to do the same. Toward this end I thought I would share some concerns that I have when it comes to installing a flag pole.

The first of course is that you make sure that it is not even near any power lines. Remember that it is going to sway in the wind so keep it far, far away.

Next, before you start digging you should really have the spot checked for burined cable. Depending on the size pole that you choose to use you hole could be several feet deep. The last thing you want to do is dig up your cable TV cable.

You will also want to check with your local planning department to make sure there aren't some guidelines that you need to be aware of for your pole. You may also find out that you will need a building permit. Depending on where you live, you may have a covenant association that will need to approve the flag pole.

The depth of the hole is going to depend on the heighth of the pole and the materials of construction. I would think that 2-3 feet of concrete would do the trick. But most flag pole kits come with complete instructions.

Good luck, and God bless America.
