Money Saving Methods, Materials, or ProjectsI would be interested in hearing from folks about some of their favorite money-saving tips for different kinds of methods, materials, and projects. What I'm looking for a different ways of using something that you may already have in your home. The reason this came up is because I was recently trying to clean an oil stain out of a driveway with a friend. My friend had bought some "Driveway stain remover" stuff that she had picked up at Home Depot. She was told that it was the "best that they had." I explained that this did not mean it would actually work. Sure enough we gave it a try, and it did kind of bleach the stain and the driveway itself, but the stain is definitely still there. I started doing some research and came up with a huge amount of ideas. A web page that was kind of interesting, and got me thinking along this line is the Dollar Stretcher (http://www.stretcher.com/index.cfm). On this site they cover all kinds of ways to stretch your dollar and save money. They of course are not limited to just home repairs and improvements, but they cover that too. Some suggestions that were posted on this site were to try using "Simple Green" and even "Pepsi." My friend has not tried these yet, but I will let you know what she comes up with. One interesting thing about Pepsi and Coke is that (I'm not sure if this is still the case) when they are transported by truck, the truck has to be labeled as carrying a hazardous material. Funny. I have known folks to create composting bins out of garbage cans and to use old waterbed mattresses for pond liners. I am wondering what you have used and come across that you thought was a creative use for a product, ideas that saved you some money, or some work. I'll get a discussion list going. Lets see what we can pull together. Thanks.
