UK Home Improvement

One of the things that I like most about the internet is how small it makes the world. As I surf the web I find it wonderfully enlightening to see sites that are mostly for other countries, and different parts of the world.

One such site that I recently came across is based out of the UK. Improveline, http://www.improveline.com/index.asp, is a ranked site from the UK which gives a variety of information concerning home improvement.

For the most part the site has to do with helping folks in Great Britain find a reputable contractor to help them do the work that they wish, but there is more to this site than just that.

One great use that I found for this site is for ideas. There are aspects of our homes that we take for granted, and therefore do not move outside of this box. Looking at some of the home ideas on this site will definitely help you think outside of the box.

The first link that I found to a great idea starter was for the "design gallery." One thing that is really nice about this option is that you can look at several different rooms and see completed versions. "Conservatories" is not a term that we normally use over here in the colonies, but it is essentially an attached greenhouse or sunroom. The Brits have taken this to an artform and these pictures gave me all sorts of ideas.

Another link that I am going to keep an eye on is the option for "example projects." Currently they have an excellent article about an 18th century barn that an architect and his wife bought and then converted into a wonderful home. Although this article comes from a UK magazine this site has included the complete article with a breakdown of costs and a floorplan.

If this article doesn't make you dream big, then nothing will.

In any case, I would definitely recommend this site for those of us that are looking for something new, different, or just to inspire us.
