Is your House Ready for Winter? Many of us would probably answer that question by saying, "it got through last winter." But what were your heating bills like? Were some rooms toasty while others were freezing? The fault is quite possibly not with your furnace. It may have a lot more to do with weatherizing your home. Now I wish that I could say that I'm an expert on this, but I'm not. But, I do, sort of, know someone who is. His name is Fred, and he hosts The Weatherization Page (http://www.weatherization.com/). There is a lot more to weatherization then throwing up some weatherstripping. The first step is to understand a little bit about how a home works and how it handles air and moisture. Fred gives us a lot of really great information to try to help us understand what our homes are actually doing, and why. One excellent area of his page is labeled for doing it yourself. Which of course is perfect for us "do-it-yourselfers." In this area he gives you some very practical tests that you can use before you plunk a wad of money down on a project that your home doesn't really need. Some weatherization projects are large, but many can be done, at least in steps, on the weekends. Take a look at Fred's page and see if he can't save you some time and money. Not only could your bills be lower but you can do it yourself.
