Frosty Windows?

They may look great in Norman Rockwell paintings, but frosting winter windows don't mean anything good for home owners. If you have taken on the task of rebuilding an older home, you know what I am talking about.

Older windows are usually single-pane. General speaking they don't open properly, and won't stay open without some help. They are usually drafty and sometimes will even rattle in a good wind. The problem is that there usually is not much we can do to rebuild the existing window. Even the jobs that we can do are really only a stop-gap, and don't really fix the problem.

An even bigger problem is that in older homes such as Victorians, the windows were custom made long before we were born. How are you going to find a window to fit?

Well, first off, you are not going to be able to go down to Home Depot and pick one up off the shelf. Even windows that you can order can be kind of tricky. Enter Andersen Windows.

Andersen Windows (www.andersenwindows.com) has taken the time to try to put together the right product and process to be able to assist the owner of an older home find good quality windows to fit there existing space. For many of us we are not interested in changing the look of the house, we just want better windows. Andersen makes sure that they fit.

Although this is not quite a do-it-yourself job, in many ways I think it is better. Installing and fitting windows can be very time consuming for the first-timer. Andersen sends out a representative at your convinence. They go over the different options, take measurements and give you an estimate that is good for 30 days. We you decide to go with it, they come out and remove the old windows and install the new ones and even clean up after themselves, all in one day for up to 6 typical windows.

If you take a look at the Andersen Windows page, they give you a lot of ideas as far as what windows can do for your home. If you are interested in making some bigger changes, they would be glad to work with you on that as well.

Check out the page and see what they have and who knows what kind of ideas may come.
