Live a Great life With Dyslexia

The word 'dyslexia' comes from the Greek meaning difficulty with words.

Dyslexia is often referred to as a specific learning difficulty, usually with spelling and writing, and/or with reading and working with numbers. People who are dyslexic may have problems putting things in order, following instructions, and/or might confuse left and right.

A dyslexic might see a written page closing in and out, words melding together, or looking fine yet they cannot read it aloud.

In the school situation, a child may find that they are experiencing failure, but does not understand why. This often results in low self-esteem, frustration and a loss of confidence, which can lead to the child being hesitant to go to school. At this stage something must be done. This is when a lot of parents seek learning specialists help.

If it is found that your child is dyslexic, it is important not to feel that he or she is destined to failure. There are well-developed courses of learning that can be used to bring your child up to the average level for their age in the areas they find difficult. Given the proper help, in most cases, a dyslexic child can succeed at school at a level equal to their classmates.

Dyslexic children often have talents in other areas, which can boost their self-esteem.

There is a lot of research into dyslexia at the moment, but its causes are not fully understood. Dyslexia is believed to be inherited as it usually runs in families. This does not mean, though, that if you are dyslexic your children will be too.

As a dyslexic child's difficulty is not visible to the eye, and it often goes unrecognized by teachers. This can result in the child being labeled 'lazy' or 'slow' at school. However, an independent report from a dyslexia specialist can make a big difference to the school's attitude, and frequently can result in extra understanding and help.

Adults with dyslexia have often suffered from a difficult time at school, where their difficulties were not properly diagnosed. They frequently ended up feeling that they were stupid. The others could do the work, but why was it so hard for them? The feeling of frustration was terrible.

There are thousands of examples of well-known dyslexic people who have achieved high quality of life, including:

Albert Einstein
Tom Cruise
Cher
General George Patton
Walt Disney
Thomas Edison
Nelson Rockefeller
Pablo Picasso
Hans Christian Anderson
