More Miles to go before I sleep; The Saga ContinuesWell we left off with the snow falling down and us waiting to go on our 200-mile ride. The ride itself was quite uneventful. It was all highway driving and the roads were well taken care of. If only I knew to cherish that easy going ride, because as soon as we parked the car the "FUN" started. We had to take an elevator to the sixth floor, from the garage. Greg's brother thought it would be funny to hit every button. So, we had a wonderful tour of every level of the parking garage. That made a very anxious Greg a bit snippy. His brother and I guessed the levity of the situation just wasn't his style. Party Pooper!! When we finally got to our floor the doors were locked. So back down to the ground floor we went, you guessed it, floor by floor. Hey we were sleep deprived and laughed like kids at Greg's reaction. Sorry Greg. Once on the ground floor, we tried every door we could find. No one of them was open. Now granted it was only 5:30am, but you would think one of the doors would be open. So we had to wait, out in the cold, for a half an hour. 6:00am: We finally go in and get Greg started getting ready for the surgery. He had preregistered the Friday before. As he went to put on his festive hospital outfit, his brother, Bruce, slept. I got a half an hour to spend with Greg before he went in to be prepped. We kissed and off he went through the OR doors. Bruce and I were sent to the Patient's Family Waiting Room. We and one other person were the only people there. Bruce quickly found a place to sleep, because he was driving home. I sat down and tried to pay attention to the television. We had been told Greg would be out of surgery by 10am at the latest. Three hours, I could do that. 10:00 came and went, so did eleven and twelve, with no word from the surgeon. OK, I was getting jumpy. I tried to chat with the volunteer for a while. It was working, but barely. The Volunteer's lunch time came and she asked me if I would stand in for her. I said sure, and off she went. For the next hour I was answering calls from surgeons, and checked family members in. I did a shockingly good job considering I had never done that before. It actually was kind of fun. Yet my eyes kept veering toward the big clock on the wall.
