As Seen on TV

We've all seen them, the ads that tout the greatest invention since sliced bread. We watch the commercials and infomercials with wide eager eyes, as the spokesperson tells us of the widget's wonderful abilities. But are they really that wonderful? Are they really something we just have to have, and right now? For any price? Let me help you make up your mind to get it, to pay the price, or wait until it hits the stores. Yes, if the product id truly great, it will hit the stores within a year or so.

For the Kitchen:

I might just be dating myself, but I remember watching with fascination the VEG-O-MATIC by Ron Popeal, of Ronco (r). I can recite its powers on demand. "It slices, it dices, it chops, and cuts julienne potatoes for mouth perfect French fries." I know my mom and all of her friends sent for this wonder tool right away. I also remember the novelty wearing off with in a week or two. Then it sat in the cupboard for years, and eventually went into the trash. It turned out to be more work to set up and clean, than the timesavings it claimed.

Well Ron is still selling "his" inventions on TV. Unlike the VEG-O-MATIC he isn't the inventor of all of his goodies. They have also gotten more multitasking and more expensive.

His "Food Dehydrator" is still gracing the late night airwaves with it's handy uses. After about one year another company put out a dehydrator comparable to Ron's for half the price. And, it was in the store. That's where I got mine, and believe it or not I'm still using it.

Now Ron is touting the praises of "his" wonderful counter sized rotisserie oven. The infomercial is great. The food looks delicious, and the machine looks easy to use, but the price it a bit high. I'm banking on it, or a facsimile, gracing the store shelves very soon.

One company has been selling a great item. It vacuum seals plastic bags for prefect protection from freezer burn, spillage and keeps your collectables save and dry. I have wanted this thing from the first time I saw it, but wasn't going to pay the television price. Now my local Wal-Mart sells a nice one, for under one hundred dollars, and they carry the bags as well. Now that's convenience.

For the Home:

There are endless products, sold on TV, that claim to make your life easier. Many of them probably do, but like before they are expensive.
