Combat the Post Holiday Blues

© Eileen O'dea

It's easy to feel let down when the decorations come down and the presents are put away. There are ways to make sure you don't fall into the holiday blues. With a little thought and a bit of creativity, you can breeze right through the post holiday days.

Enjoy the Weather:

If you have snow, go out and build a snowman, go sledding or tobogganing, or even skiing. Try your hand, or foot, at ice-skating. Freeze snowballs for the summer. Have a snowball fight, safely.

If it's hot and sunny where you are, go to the beach, build a sand castle, take up beach combing. Have a pig roast on the beach. Take up volleyball, or even surfing (the catch a wave kind).

Start Anew:

If you're just not the outdoors type there are other things to keep you busy.

Get a new haircut, yes both men and women.
Wear shorts and tank tops around the house.
Buy a new dress, suit, or outfit.
Learn to play a musical instrument.
Take a class in something new to you. Like beginning Architecture, or pottery.

Get out of There!:

Go on a trip.

If you live with snow right now, go south, west or down under.
If you live with the heat now, go north go way north.

Rent a ski cabin, light a fire, and just read for an entire weekend.
Rent a beachfront cabin, open all of the windows, and daydream all weekend.
