These costumes are not only easy to make, they're easy to wear as well. With a few craft items, a thread and needle and some tape and glue, your kids will have costumes to be envied.

Politically Correct Choices

Fairy Magic
If your little one loves Fairies, you can turn them into Fairy royalty.

You will need:

A pair of brightly colored tights
A contrasting t-shirt or sweatshirt
Two separate yards of coordinating tulle
Heavy thread (such as quilting thread)
A few rolls of brightly colored ribbons A wooden dowel (cut to 1 ½ foot length)
Some Tacky glue
Two wire hangers
Sparkly makeup (optional)
Some craft odds and ends

Gather your supplies together. Measure your child's waist. Double that number and cut that much tulle. Fold the tulle in half, lengthwise, to give the elusion of two skirts. With heavy thread hand sew a running stitch along the fold. Gather the tulle, by pulling one side of the string, until you achieve your child's waist size. Sew two pieces of ribbon for a connecting bow.

For the wings: take the two hangers. Cut off the hooked ends. Shape the remaining pieces to resemble a wing. Fairy wings are a bit thin and sort of pointy. Wrap some of the leftover tulle around the wire. Tape the two straight ends together with duct tape. Wrap a piece of tulle around that to cover the tape. Tie two, two yard pieces of ribbon, per side, to the straight part, one for each arm. These are where you are going to connect the wings to your child.

Take the cut piece of dowel and paint it a coordinating color to the costume. You can add some sparkles while the paint is wet, if you want to. Once the dowel is dry, glue at least 5 pieces of ribbon onto the flat end. This is their wand.

If you wish, on Halloween, Cover your child's face with sparkling face makeup. Please be sure they are not allergic to the makeup ahead of time. Also, watch your child with the wand you don't want ANY booboos.

The Explorer
Think Indiana Jones here. Your child will need: A hat, a back pack, a coil of rope to hang from the back pack, a compass (can be drawn onto cardboard), gloves, a jacket with lots of pockets (optional), Rolled up maps (to stick out of the pack), and boots. Feel free to add your own touches. Using items you already have can make this a freebie.
