Start Your Active Lifestyle

OK, you're loosing weight, and getting fit. Now it's time to choose an active lifestyle that's just right for you. From mall walking to mountain climbing, and everything in between, there is something for everyone.

Every 3 to 4 month, I'll take a look at some fun and satisfying active lifestyle choices. This month we'll look at; Mall walking, Beginning hiking, and wall climbing. All three are great fun and good for your health maintenance.

Mall Walking:

Mall walking has become very popular as of late. Most of us have access to a mall, a pare of walking shoes, and at least 10 minutes a day.

Malls are a wonderful place to walk. You start at one end of the mall, and walk around to the start again. This is done much easier on week days. Early in the morning and lunch time. There are fewer crowds, and a more straight-a-ways. You can walk faster without running into shoppers.

Before you start, go to the mall of your choice. Sit on a bench and watch for other mall walkers. You will be surprised at how many there are. Watch how they are doing it. Notice what they are wearing. On their feet especially.

When you're ready to start, just go around once. It might not feel like much, but depending on the size of the mall, it could be a good mile. Slowly increase your laps. As you get used to it you will be able to walk faster, and longer, in that same 10 minutes.

Beginning Hiking:

Have you've been a walker? Do you need something a little more challenging? Well Hiking might just be up your alley. Or hill, as the case may be.

You will need to dress right. Wear; loose cotton shorts, heavy cotton socks, a lightweight cotton tee shirt, a cotton button down shirt, and a good pair of hiking shoes.

You will need a canteen! Water is a definite necessity. Make sure it can hold enough water for the hike, plus a little extra. Not that I expect it, but it is possible to get lost. Also bring some trail mix for extra energy. Maybe even one or two energy bars. Just in case. It's always better to be prepared.

Before you start, get in hiking shape. Exercise your feet, calves, knees and thighs. As well as your cardio-pulmonary System. You will need to be able for your heart to carry you through the hike. You will also, as you advance, be going into higher elevations. You will really need good strong lungs.
