Easters Spirit; Past Present and Future
I was touched, but still obsessing about the diner. The spirit brought me back to my bed and left. She was disheartened by my disregard for the Holiday's true meaning.
The Spirit of Easter Future
I was abruptly awaken by the sound of gunshots. The room was dark and dusty. I looked out the window. The world I knew was no longer. People were doing what ever they wanted. There was looting, cursing everywhere, and no one cared about their fellow man.
There was a timid sigh from the door way. It was the Spirit of Easter future. It was frail and time worn. I asked what had happened. The spirit just stared at me. I asked what happened to Easter. The spirit moaned. It told me there is no such thing as Easter.
I was shocked. I wanted to know why. The Spirit explained that the idea of Jesus and God had been tossed aside. Due to disinterest. Eventually everyone forgot what Easter was really about. Their children were never taught about Jesus, and all he had done for us. Humanity was lost.
How could this be! Have we really gotten so callused. Had we celebrated the Easter Bunny so much more than Jesus? I asked the spirit if this was how it was to be. Or, could it all be changed. The spirit sighed once more and disappeared.
My alarm went off at 6:30am. I jumped up from my sleep. I started to head to the kitchen, but stopped dead in my tracks. What was I going to do? Would I forgo Easter mass to make my gathering look perfect? I just couldn't do it. I went to my closet and took out my best dress. I fixed my hair, put on a hat and went off to the local Church.
I was early and watched the parishioners file in. They all looked perfect. New cloths and extra clean and shiny. All were smiling and seemed joyous for the Holiday.
When the mass started, their voices raised high. The hymns came from their hearts. I couldn't help but join in. It didn't take long for me to get back the true Easter spirit.
Did this all really happen? Maybe. Maybe it should have happened. Maybe it could happen to you. It's up to us to carry on the tradition and meaning of Easter. For our selves and for the future. So we will have
