When the weather gets hot, We tend to get a little lazy. Who wants to work out in high heat? I do a two hour workout every day, and I have a hard time when it's hot and steamy. I'm going to share my Keeping Cool tips. So you, too, can workout and stay cool.
Before you start You have to do a few extra things to get ready to workout, in the heat. 1. The cloths; If the temperature is above 70 degrees F. Ditch the spandex. You want to wear, lightweight, lightly colored cotton. There will be plenty of time for the spandex on the cooler days. Of course, if swimming is your way to work out, spandex is OK. If you have lighter weight shoes or sneakers, wear them. Put aside the heavy workout shoes. Just remember, the shoe you choose should be the right kind for your workout. If you have long hair, put it up. If you have a sweat band, use it. Believe me, no one is going to be looking at your hair if it's Really hot. Hey, you're only working out, not running for Mr./Ms. Universe. One last clothing note; If you need to wear a support bra, or cup, don't shed it for added comfort. You don't want to injure any important areas. 2. The atmosphere; Where you work out is extremely important, during the Hot days. It can make the difference between safe or dangerous. Are you a walker or a runner? If so, and you normally do your workout outside, Take it inside. Now, I know you cant run, or even walk, efficiently in the living room. Unless you have expensive equipment. Get in the car and go to the mall. It's air-conditioned, and will give you the space you need. If you really want to run, go to the local YMCA, YWCA, college, or gym. If you workout in front of your VCR, crank the air-conditioning. If you don't have an air conditioner, use a good fan. If at all possible, point that cooling source right at you. 3. Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate!! Even the most prepared exerciser can not forget Hydrating. Water is a must. If you will be perspiring profusely, a hydrating drink, like Gator Aid, should be used. It will replenish any important nutrients you will sweat out. 4. Workout Alternatives; If the temperature is in the high 80's F. or up, you may need to do an alternative workout. There are several ways to keep in shape, and stay cool at the same time.
