First, a little history of Mother's Day.
The first Mother's Day is thought to have been celebrated in ancient Greece. It was in honor of Rhea, the mother of all gods. During the 1600's England celebrated a day called Mothering Sunday. It was celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent. This day celebrated the Mother's of England. England's poor, worked as servants, for the wealthy. Far away from their families. On Mothering Day, they were given the day off, and encouraged to go home to visit their mothers. They often brought with them, a special cake called a Mothering Cake. This is known to be the first traditional Mother's Day gift. Christianity spread through Europe, and Mothering Day became a celebration of the Mother Church. To honor the church. Some how, over the years, Mothering Day and Mother Church day became one. People began honoring their Mothers along with the church. In the United States, Mother's Day was first suggested by Julia Ward Howe, (The author of the words of the Battle Hymn of the Republic), in 1872. It was a day to be dedicated to peace. She held Mother's Day meetings, in Boston Mass., every year. In Philadelphia, 1907, Ana Jarvis began a campaign to make other's Day a national holiday. With her urging to ministers, businessmen, and politicians, by 1911 Mother's Day was celebrated in almost every state. In 1914 President Woodrow Wilson declared the second Sunday of May, National Mother's Day. Along with America, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Australia and Belgium, also celebrate Mother's Day on the second Sunday of May. Now that we know how Mother's Day started, Let's talk about some special Mother's Day gifts. Mom's first Mother's Day No Mother's Day is as special as Mom's first. It is a day she will remember, for the rest of her life. So, Dads Go All Out! . Maker her breakfast. If you cant cook, coffee and toast will do. Just as long as you do the work. And don't forget to clean up after your self. Give her 2 nice cards. One from you, and one from the baby. Add a bouquet of flowers and a small gift. A piece of keepsake jewelry is just perfect. Now, you will take care of the baby, for the day. Let Mom take it easy. Top the day off with a babysitter, and dinner out. This special day will stay in Mom's memories forever. Mother's Day for Mommy
