He continued living a very private life but soon began making public appearances nationwide for charity. In November of 1986, he and Barbara made their way to Davenport, IA. After a full day of rehearsal, Grant felt tired and went to rest at his hotel. He began suffering pains, and when the doctors arrived, they determined that he was having a stroke. After being taken to the hospital and bidding a sad farewell to his wife, Cary Grant died in the intensive care unit. Many people publicly mourned the loss of this great actor, and many of his peers began telling their favorite Cary Grant stories. Frequent adjectives used to describe Grant included debonair, handsome, dashing, witty and stylish. I'd say he was all that and more.
