The Apartment also contains a good showcase for Jack Lemmon, in what I believe is his first real lead role, after supporting roles in Mister Roberts and Some Like it Hot. This was back before he proved himself in genuinely dramatic roles, but his earlier films do show that he had a flair for verbal comedy.
Billy Wilder has proven time and time again that he was one of the true geniuses of Hollywood. And even while I said before that The Apartment wasn't my favourite Wilder film, it is still a fine film, and must be seen by anyone interested in this director.
