Creating Your Sacred Space

I believe we all have a special place where we are completely at peace with ourselves, that one perfectly energized area that gets us in touch with ourselves. Do you know where your sacred space is?

For some of us, our sacred space is in our home somewhere. For others, it might be our garden, a mountain top, a riverside or in a magical place inside our own minds. These are the places where we do our spiritual work, our deep healing.

I did some self-discovery work over the last two weeks, and I have found a new value and purpose for my sacred space. I believe that it is also important to be able to access our sacred space when we need to get away, to think, to meditate, or to simply spend some quality time with ourselves.

My own sacred space is a place in my mind, a place not quite tangible, a place that I have created. So, for me to have an actual place to do my work, I need to create a tangible and accessible area in my home. This is what I want to cover in this article, as well as ways to use our sacred space.

First of all, sit down and write out a brief paragraph or two about what your perfect, sacred space would be like. For me, it would encompass many of the characteristics of the outdoors. I enjoy the energy and beauty of crystals and rocks and plants. The fragrances and aromas are important to me, as well. I prefer natural lighting, candlelight, and the glow of a sunset. How about you? What are your preferences?

Now think about what type of work do you intend to do in your sacred space? Make a few notes about what things you'll need in your area and how you would like it arranged. What things will you use most and need most accessible in your sacred space?

For me, I need my computer and a recliner to write and do my hypnosis sessions. I need something to play background music on. I've also arranged other creative outlets in my sacred space. I have my guitar, my oil paints and canvases, as well as all my books. I work most with my computer and recliner, so I made that the central focus of my room. To help with my preference of natural lighting, I've placed my desk by a window.
