New Age Hypnosis

New Age Hypnosis, by Dr. Bruce Goldberg, is one of the more unusual books on hypnosis that I've read recently. This book is written, in my opinion, to help us learn more about the "New Age" uses of hypnosis, Karma, and, what Dr. Goldberg calls "Future Life Progressions." After thoroughly explaining hypnosis, its techniques, procedures, and uses, Dr. Goldberg goes into an excellent exploration of hypnotic progressions. I can't say whether this is something I believe in or not (I definitely want to read more on the subject), but it is a fascinating field of study! The author has conducted more than 33,000 past life regressions and future progressions since 1974, on more than 11,000 individual patients. I want to share a case study from his book with you, and I want to really focus on these future progressions.

First, one of the most interesting points I got from this book. Dr. Goldberg says that when we tap into our superconscious, our energy changes. He says that this isn't just a physical level change, but it is also a spirit level change. This would carry over into our future lives as well. For instance, say that you tap into your superconscious through a hypnosis session to help heal the inner child. This tap changes the energy in our body, mind and spirit and begins a healing process, but also changes our spirit energy permanently. This would mean that in our next lives, we never revert back to a level that we've already healed from. We would continue to grow from that level. We might possibly stay at that level, but we would never regress below that level, even in future lives. The concept is very interesting and really makes a lot of sense spiritually.

Another area that Dr. Goldberg covers is an in-depth explanation of Karma. Karma is a Sanskirt word meaning "action." Dr. Goldberg says that there are four aspects of karma:

  • Cause and effect
  • Compensation
  • Balancing
  • Completion

Though I can't begin to explain "Karmic Law" in one article, the basic principles seem to be not only to balance our actions but also to perfect the soul and make it free. There are five lower planes (some say there are seven) where we remain until our soul is perfected and can ascend to higher planes and eventually to God. The five planes that Dr. Goldberg discusses are:

  • The earth plane or physical plane
  • The astral plane
