I received a copy of the book Chakras for Beginners by David Pond. At first glance, I thought "What a nice book for my beginner students." Wow, was I surprised! This book gives energy work a whole new perspective. This isn't just a book on balancing our chakras. Yes, it tells us how to do that, but I believe the main focus of this book is the diagnosis, treatment, and healing of the areas in our life through balance of our chakras. Are these two things one and the same? Yes, and no.
Anyone who has done any type of energy work, whether it be auras, chakras, Reiki, or some other method, knows how to balance their own or their clients' chakras. However, this book takes us through each chakra and helps us realize by our own actions in life which chakra is out of balance. I had never taken a look at chakras in quite this way before. David Pond describes chakras and energy in this way: "Compare (this) to how photosynthesis works in the plant world. The sun's energy is absorbed by the material substance of the plant and brings it to life. The energy is drawn down into the roots, which draw nutrients from the earth. The energy then ascends back up the plant and is ultimately expressed as its flowering - energy transformed into beauty and given back to the world. So it is with us." The Seven Chakras: (Refer to Help I Need Energy for a detailed look at each chakra.)
Chakras for Beginners describes our chakra centers as "spinning vortexes of subtle energy located along the spine from the base to the crown." Pond says that each of these chakras gives us a different perspective on life. They determine the use of our energy and interact with the universal life force energy. A blocked chakra causes disease in our body, mind and spirit. A complete blockage could cause death (thank goodness this never happens), but our chakras are all functioning. Sometimes they just aren't functioning properly. Pond says "Working with the chakras requires balance. It is the all-pervasive requirement to be able to move through the chakra system at will. Without balance, you become polarized in the area of your life that is out of balance." Now this breaks us into new ground! He also says that we cannot achieve balance. We have to surrender to it, sink into it, become it. Be balance!
