Crystals and Color

There are so many wonderfully beautiful and healing crystals, that when it comes time to choose one for our personal use the choice can be difficult. Which one? My first answer to this question, and the simplest answer, is go with the one you are most drawn to. There will be one that pulls not only your eyes to it, but attracts your heart and makes you want to hold it in your hands. It's calling to you. My citrine that I wear around my neck was like that with me - love at first sight. I couldn't afford it, but I kept going back to the store just to visit it until I saved the money up to buy it. Of course some attract you in a more subtle way. You may pass it by at first glance but keeping turning back feeling like you've missed something important. There are more direct methods of crystal selection based on a particular need you have in your life. One of the best ways to easily narrow down the choices is to know which colors have individual healing properties. Red, pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, white and black groups of stones will have similar healing talents. Each stone in the group will have even more specified uses. This week we'll take a look at the different colors' energies and healing abilities. Remember that crystals are best used in conjunction with proper medical treatment to aid and strengthen the results, not to replace appropriate medical care. (For example, if you cut yourself and are bleeding, bloodstone works great to help heal the wound, but you must first clean and bandage the cut.) Anyone who has ever been in a hospital has probably noticed the predominately blue atmosphere to promote healing. Prisons are starting to paint their prisoner-holding areas in shades of light pink to soothe and calm the inmates. Our own homes reflect colors that we love and feel most at ease and comfortable in. Even our gardens say a lot about us by the colors and shades we grow. The clothes we wear each day definitely tell the world what we're feeling. Have you ever picked out your outfit for work the night before, just to wake up and completely change your mind? So what do all these colors mean? RED: Red is used to strengthen our bodies, our blood stream, our will power, our determination, our vitality, our sexuality. Red gives us courage, energy, passion. Stones which are red or contain red flecks are purifying. Since red is the color of our blood, it symbolizes birth and death and has been considered a sacred color associated with deities. The strength of this color is very protective, and also helps to make us more active and forceful. Being associated with our blood stream, red stones are wonderful for rashes, inflammation, circulation, and any type of heart or blood problems. Garnet and ruby are lovely red stones, and Bloodstone can range from shades of red to a beautiful green with red flecks.
