What IS Holistic Therapy?

Many cultures have long believed that our balance with the universe effects our health -- physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually. Are those societies right, and why has western medicine veered so far away from those beliefs? When we're depressed, we can all feel a shift inside our physical bodies, often causing pain and illness. Our resistance to germs and viruses is lower. We find it harder to focus, to use our mental powers. We may withdraw spiritually, or feel that we are not in-tune with our higher power. All that in combination, creates more depression - repeating the cycle over and over again... unless we find the origin of that imbalance and heal.

Ultimately, it is our responsibility to heal. We have to accept that we have an illness. We have to take the first steps to find out what that is. We have to decide to use the energy to do something about it. We in the end, have to decide to allow the treatment to take effect inside our bodies. Holistic health is also concerned with preventative therapies and health maintenance. We need to find balance, maintain that balance with daily health practices, and become a healthy person for life. We need to grow.

The factor of our health that we usually notice first is probably our physical body. It's easy to feel the effects of allergies, or the flu, or a broken bone. Next in line, I think, would be our emotional body. We know if we are sad, happy, angry, afraid, etc. We easily understand the connection between our emotions and their effects on our physical body.

Next is our mental body. This is where fatigue, and stress come into play, also any mental fogs and our memory, focus and concentration. We have all felt the pain of a stress headache or migraine that started with pain in the neck and shoulders because of a stressful environment. All that ties back into our emotions.

The most complicated aspect of our holistic health is our spiritual body. Every culture has different spiritual beliefs; however, more and more often, these spiritual beliefs are merging and changing within each and every individual. We would be hard-pressed to find two people in the world who believed absolutely the same things on their spiritual path. This fact makes it difficult within the mind to be absolutely certain. It creates doubts, which lead to searching... on the positive side, these doubts and searching will hopefully lead to enlightenment and spiritual happiness. Without spiritual happiness, I believe it is impossible to be completely healthy.
