I'll Remember That (Part I)© T. Darlene Cheek
I wanted to start a series of articles on strengthening your mind. This article will focus on increasing your memory, even to the point of having a photographic memory, using completely natural methods... and yes, these techniques work! Next week we'll cover creativity and focus; and the week after, we'll explore methods to enhance your intuition and even bring out your natural psychic abilities.
My brother-in-law, Joe, gets honorable mention for this article. He's everything a true Sagittarian should be in the quest for knowledge department! He was one of the most excited when I told him I was going to take hypnosis classes and even went as far as driving me to class and picking me up. After I became certified, Joe came over to the house and said "Can you help someone use more of their brain?" I thought for a second and said "Well, on the first night of the class, our teacher hypnotized us to remember everything that we learned during her lessons, so I don't see why not." It's a theory of mine anyway that people with higher IQ's and/or psychic abilities are simply using a higher percentage of their brain. The subconscious mind is a funny thing. It's hard to imagine all the information that is stored there. Everything is there that you have ever seen, heard, smelled, touched, tasted or even thought about; and, some people even believe that all the knowledge and information from past lives is kept up there, too. So, there's absolutely no reason we can't remember it if we just know how. In one of my previous articles, I described the subconscious mind as a file room with a little clerk (let's call him "Bob" since we're going to be referring to him quite a bit) running back and forth retrieving information for us everytime we think of something. One of the first "tricks" I learned to improve my memory was not to wear the little guy out, and to let him finish one task at a time. For example: Say I can't remember the name of the guy who hypnosis was first named after - I've drawn a complete blank. First of all never say "I can't remember that." Say "I'll remember that in a moment." The next step is to say three times "What is the name of the man whom hypnosis was named after?" Now don't ask the question or even think about it again. Why?
