This guest article was written by Dennis Nelson. I asked him to write something for our topic because I found this subject very interesting. Though the benefits of Sensory Therapy are many, this article is focused on its affects for obesity, which is timely for those of us who will be trying to lose weight after the holidays.
Sensory Therapy benefits obesity because it focuses on teaching the body to crave healthy food sources as opposed to those that cause problems. Our senses are 'hard wired' to our brain as a form of survival. It deals with the most basic functions for quality of life. The normal feeling of being alive and aware is called "cenesthesia". To achieve this, one must keep the senses active. Research has shown that obese patients experience the opposite. By being separated from their senses due to the wrong types of chemicals entering the body, they suppress the genetic memory that tells them they are getting the right nutrients to power the body and to fight off illness. In order to keep the senses in top shape, it is essential to focus on preventing and eliminating exposure to high levels of stress and toxins. Unfortunately, living in an industrial environment and technical world, stress and toxins are going to be an everyday part of life. So, it is important to not add stress and toxins to sensory therapy. Most accepted theories reference stress and toxins as leading causes of obesity; or at least a contributing factor. Nutritionists often recommend getting as much organic and fresh food as possible. Our society has learned a great deal from this and has adjusted the type of food they consume by mouth. However, one aspect that deserves just as much attention if not more is the fact that our body uses four times more of what is absorbed through the skin than what passes through the stomach. It makes good sense to be ever more focused of what we put on our skin. If you go organic on the skin, studies show that the body will begin to crave the healthy food and will actually begin to reject the "junk". This has been of particular interest with children and teens because this segment of the population typically goes for the processed foods. By using honeybee nectar soap on a daily basis, genetic memory will return dominant and parents begin to see their children asking for healthy food. This is because the body has re-taught itself to choose foods that are instinctive to provide energy in mind, body, and spirit. Go To Page: 1 2
