Health Tips Series - Part 1 © T. Darlene Cheek

I was trying to come up with a great idea for a new article, and for some reason, I couldn't focus on one subject at a time. I learned so much from the classes I took while I was away, and I want to share it ALL with you! So, I've decided to do a series of articles on helpful health tips. Each article with have tips for the body, mind, and spirit and will cover a variety of different tips in each area.
BODY Aging & Our Changing BodiesAnyone over 30 has begun to realize the ever changing processes our bodies go through as we begin to age. Our metabolism starts to slow down, muscle mass decreases, and fatty tissue increases. We need about 10% less calories for every decade we live. We also become more sedentary. What does all this mean? That it is definitely harder to lose weight, or even maintain our weight, as we get older. What can we do to stay in shape as we get a little older? First, you must do some type of daily exercise. If you are completely sedentary, begin with walking 10 minutes each day. Add 5 minutes a week until you are up to 20-30 minutes a day. Don't overdo! If you injure yourself, you will prolong the time it takes to get on an exercise program. A book I highly recommend is Grow Younger, Live Longer, by Dr. Deepak Chopra. If you follow the programs in this book, you may actually be able to reverse the aging process! If you're interested in learning more about healthy weight loss, check out this Suite University Course - Lose Weight & Keep it Off Arthritis & Arthritis-Related Allergies There are many foods that help arthritis sufferers, among them being salmon, sardines, and other fatty fish, fruits high in citrus, and high-fiber/low-calorie foods. The oils in seafood help fight inflammation because they contain omega-3 fatty acids. The citrus flavonoids increase the antioxidant effect of vitamin C and may also have an anti-inflammatory effect. High-fiber foods have a double benefit, first from the fiber itself and secondly from their high zinc content.Pay extra attention to food allergies that can accompany arthritis. Although you should eat seafoods that are high in omega-3 fatty acids, some shellfish, soy, wheat, corn, coffee, and alcohol can cause a severe flare-up. Arthritis suffers should cut down on vegetable oils, fatty beef, and pork, all of which can worsen inflammation. Also avoid any foods that worsen your symptoms. You can discover these foods by keeping a journal of what you eat and when you experience pain.
