Happy Birthday, America! It's that time of the year! THE 4TH OF JULY! Perfect weather for icecream, watermelon, and fresh garden vegetables. The hot summer is here and people in every state in the United States of America will soon be celebrating the birthday of our nation. On the fourth of July, front porches across the land will display the country's American Flag. Automobiles will travel up and down busy U.S. highways, many with the flag waving from antennas -- proud to be a citizen of their nation. If you take a ride to town, notice the business storefronts waving their flags, too. Many businesses offer special 4th of July sales to their shoppers, some shopping centers celebrate with special guest musicians and speakers announcing the purpose of the holiday. Excitement builds in the states on this special day. Many people put a lot of planning into what they are going to do to make the birthday of the country a meaningful one. Folks wear their American Flag lapel pins and even red, white, and blue clothing. A trip to a prime beach resort, such as Ocean City, may be on the agenda for Marylanders, or a visit to another state's tourist site to enjoy the festivities may be considered. Perhaps a visit to see family or friends? If you live in America, how will you celebrate? Will you travel, or is home the place to be? Many families will fire up the barbecue grill, throw on some burgers and dogs, and frolic in the great outdoors. Of course, everyone will eat until they are stuffed. My favorite part of today is watching the kids play in the pool. They have such a grand time jumping off the diving board, throwing their Frisbees, and sitting in the flotation chairs, until a friend sneaks up behind and quickly tips them over. All of the voices burst into laughter. Then a second "wise guy" decides to play a trick on someone and pours a cup of ice cubes over their bare body, while they are stretched out in the lounge chair with their eyes closed. The whole day is nothing but fun! When the sun goes down, everyone gathers in the living room, turns on television, and watches an exciting game of baseball. By this time folks are probably ready for another round of iced tea, or cold beer.
