Veterans Day is November 11th. It began in 1918 and marked the end of World War I. This year will be a time not only to remember those who have fought for this country in wars past. It will be a time to remember those who are now at war in Afghanistan. Fighting for the freedoms that until September 11,2001, most of us took for granted. Just recently we recieved news that two soldiers were killed in a helicopter accident in Pakistan. They were on duty awaiting a call in case they were needed to support troops that were on a mission inside of Afghanistan. I also heard about another soldier a week or so ago that was killed in a vehicle accident. President Bush spoke about these men and he said "they will not have died in vain."
The elite troops from the Marine's, the Navy and the Army are using their skills and to bring this war to a swift conclusion. While their loved ones at home can only wait and pray for their safe return. There are a lot of local military men and women from near my home in Virginia that have been deployed overseas. Which effects a lot of people from this entire area. On homes everywhere there are American flags being flown in support of our troops. There are special news reporters on TV that are showing what is going on in Afghanistan as soon as they are able. There are a lot of support groups online for those who wish to participate and find out more info from others who have family and friends who are a part of the war effort. After reading some of them the same theme prevails in their questions. Have you heard anything from your military person in the region? Those that have pass on the news that they have and the older more experienced members help the younger ones understand that they will hear something that it is a matter of security that the soldiers can't contact them all the time. It seems to comfort those who don't hear anything that this is the case, to calm unwarranted fears. With the anthrax fears going on in the United States. There are some who are just totally fearful while there are others who seem to be pillars of strength. They are the ones that keep everyone else sane. This war like all other wars will have casualities on both the war front and on American soil. But like every other war in history there is a beginning and there is an end. I pray that this one will end soon. That there won't be a lot more lives lost and that soon our hero's, the American military can come home. Go To Page: 1 2
