Do you remember a long time ago that the best way to meet a neighbor when you were new to the neighborhood was to go borrow a cup of sugar. Sugar, is a very big part of every household in the United States and is still a cash crop for numerous southern states. It is used on almost every table in America today. Although dentist would caution consumers because of it's effect on a beautiful set of teeth. Sugar, still remains on the shelves of supermarkets.
Sugar, is an important ingredient in numerous recipes. They include cakes, candies, cookies and drinks. Holidays would not be the same without sugar. Who ever heard of a Christmas without candy canes or Halloween with candy. Birthdays without cake or ice cream. Coffee without sugar, okay some people don't take sugar in their coffee but I am not one of them. We have been conditioned since early childhood to eat sweets. From our first animal cookies to our twinkies. Snickers, Milky Way, Nestles, Butter Finger, all candies that most of us grew up eating. Pixie sticks, fire balls, dots (which by the way you don't see much of anymore) candy necklaces. Snow Cones, Ice Cream Sandwiches, Italian Ices, all contain sugar. What would a day at the game be without a Super Big Gulp, Dr. Pepper, Pepsi, Coke, Sprite, Seven-Up or a large Slurpee. If you are a diabetic then don't eat any of these things. If you are anyone else, my only caution is don't eat a lot of these things. Every thing in moderation! Included in the links to this page are recipes that can be used for different holidays. They include cookies, drinks, cakes and candy. There are also links on some of the history of sugar and interesting facts about the sweetness of sugar in fruit juices vs. Coca Cola. Enjoy and remember brush your teeth after you eat any type of sweets!
