Every year for as long back as I can remember our family has gathered at my parents house on Halloween. It has become a time honored family tradition. My parents who are now in their seventies love it. Daddy decorates the yard with pumpkins and other Halloween decorations such as indian corn or gords that he has grown in his garden. While Mom goes out and buys tons of candy. There is always enough for all the trick or treater's plus some. Each of us always carries some home with us. We all take our grandchildren there now.

When my children were small I used to make home made costumes. Face painting was the most fun. We would take hours getting ready for that one evening. I had four children and we would come home with enough candy to last until Valentines Day and then some.

Last year I found pink and purple plastic pumpkins for my grandchildren to take to collect candy in. We also made sure each of them had their own flash lights. Even though two of my grandchildren were just under two they joined in on the fun. There is always one of our grandchildren or children that ends up as a witch every year. My brother's twins were the witches last year. I wonder who will be the witch this year?

Each year some of the children or grandchildren gather to go to the great pumpkin patch to pick out personal pumpkins for their houses. This is a special year because it will be my youngest two grandchildren's first trip to the great pumpkin patch. We will probley take a bunch of pictures and maybe pick out an extra pumpkin to make a pumpkin pie with. Then we will take them home and usually the father's and or grandfather's will help the younger ones clean and carve a funny face in the pumpkins. A candle will be placed inside and will be lit on Halloween night to guide the trick or treaters to each house.

My favorite Halloween memories are at a haunted house that they had at the church down the street from where my parents lived. They had bobbing for apples, musical chairs and a cake walk. I won a cake. The haunted house wasn't that scary but it was all a lot of fun.
