Christmas In JuneSome thrifty shoppers do Christmas shopping as early as the day after Christmas when all of the Christmas stuff goes on sale. This is not only a good time to shop for gifts for the next year but also for cards and decorations which begin at 10% off and go all the way to 90% off until they are all gone. My friend Peggy and I like to go to the local party store after holidays and stock up for the next year. Then there are those that open Christmas Club accounts at their bank. They take a little money out of each paycheck to put in the account and then take it out near Christmas so they can do their Christmas shopping. Christmas in June is for all those that don't have any money to do shopping after Christmas because they have spent it all on Christmas and all those high winter utility bills. By June they are starting to recover a bit. June is an excellent time to start putting sale items on layaway so they can be paid off a little at a time. Starting in June on making gifts for all those on your gift list gives those who are good with crafting time to spend on creating the perfect gift for someone special. Making handmade Christmas decorations, such as cross-stitching table clothes, napkins, pillowcases, stockings (don't forget to purchase those stocking stuffers along the way.) For those who crochet, they can make hats, scarves, sweaters, pocketbooks, quilts etc. Other crafts include ornament making, painting and ceramics, sewing and woodworking. My brother David makes reindeers out of wood and paints them. His yard is one of the brightest and most decorated in the neighborhood. I told him that the reason that they always have a good Christmas is because Santa can see his house from the air, so he knows exactly where to find him. I have listed a lot of wonderful web pages where readers can find ideas for gifts, crafts and fun things for the kids to do, be sure and check them out. I have to go now. I am working on my Christmas list and with seven kids, three grandkids, a herd of nieces and nephews, this year it's going to be really long.
