Mardi Gras Day-Feb. 27, 2001

I will begin this article with a phrase I say every year about this time. I want to go to Mardi Gras! However, this year like all others I won't go. The excuse I will give is that I won't have the time off work or that I need the money for something else etc... The list is endless, yet every year I say the same thing next year I'll go to Mardi Gras. Then I watch the news and how everyone there in their mask and lavish costumes seem to be having a grand time at the largest party of the year next to New Year's at Time's Square.

I dream of walking the French Quarter and seeing all the old places from the 19th century. Meeting up with friends on Bourbon Street to celebrate Mardi Gras with style. Watching the Indian's show off their costumes and the parades as they go by. Perhaps with a little curiosity I would like to visit the bayou country and see if there really are witches that live in the swamps. I think that the moss on the trees there is so mysterious especially at night when the wind howls and the moon is full.

I would like to eat some Cajun food and try some King Cake for desert. To wear bunches of rose shaped beads and maybe trade someone for theirs just for the fun of it. Since I can't go to Mardi Gras this year I think I may celebrate it with my own Mardi Gras Party at my home and invite family and friends.

What ever you decide to do. If it is to go to New Orleans and celebrate with the crowds there or stay at home and celebrate like I will be doing. You can find out all the information that you will need by checking out the web pages that I have listed. I hope you and yours will have a safe and happy Mardi Gras Day.
