The Jewish High Holy Days begin at sundown, (6p.m. Jerusalem time) on September 29th, this year. Rosh Hashanah will begin the New Year of Tishri. Rosh Hashanah is a time for repentance http://vjholidays.com/rosh/days.htm and to prepare for Yom Kipper, http://jewfa1.org/holiday4.htm the Day of Atonement Yom Kipper, which is considered the holiest day of the year, falls on October 9th. The High Holy Days run between these two dates. These days are referred to as "Ten Days of Awe." During this time the Jewish people search their souls and try to right any wrongs they may have done to others. Rosh Hashanah is known for the blowing of the Shofar, the horn of a ram. There are also other traditions such as dipping an apple in honey and the blessing of the candles. For more info on these traditions, http://www.akhlah.com/holidays/RoshHasha...

Yom Kippur, http://geocities.com/Heartland/2175/chap... this is an entire day set-aside for fasting. There are only a few that are excused from this fasting, small children, pregnant women and those who are too sick to fast. The Rabbi should be consulted if there are any questions on who should or should not fast. Much time is spent during these holidays in the synagogue. The Jewish people believe that God seals the books as to who will live and who shall die during the year on this day. Much of the history of the High Holy Days can be found on the following website. It includes stories about Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kipper, The Shofar, The Festival of Sukkot, recipes, etc... http://www.holidays.net/highholydays/ Follow the the following link to more holiday recipes for Challah, Kugel, Vegetables, Tzimmes, and Deserts. http://www.holidays.net/highholydays/swe...

These holy days will be celebrated not only in Jerusalem but also by Jews all over the world. I personally enjoy learning about other cultures and religions. After having prepared for this article and read about these holidays I can say that I think that Judaism is a beautiful religion. I hope when you the reader study this holiday that you will enjoy it as much as I did.
