Elul-To prepare for these Holy Days see: http://www.ou.org/chagim/elul/default.htm
Yom Kippur, http://geocities.com/Heartland/2175/chap... this is an entire day set-aside for fasting. There are only a few that are excused from this fasting, small children, pregnant women and those who are too sick to fast. The Rabbi should be consulted if there are any questions on who should or should not fast. Much time is spent during these holidays in the synagogue. The Jewish people believe that God seals the books as to who will live and who shall die during the year on this day. Much of the history of the High Holy Days can be found on the following website. It includes stories about Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kipper, The Shofar, The Festival of Sukkot, recipes, etc... http://www.holidays.net/highholydays/ Follow the the following link to more holiday recipes for Challah, Kugel, Vegetables, Tzimmes, and Deserts. http://www.holidays.net/highholydays/swe... These holy days will be celebrated not only in Jerusalem but also by Jews all over the world. I personally enjoy learning about other cultures and religions. After having prepared for this article and read about these holidays I can say that I think that Judaism is a beautiful religion. I hope when you the reader study this holiday that you will enjoy it as much as I did.
