In 839 AD, the fighting between the Vikings and the Picts took a terrible toll on the Pictish monarchy, with the loss of King Uen, his brother Bran and many of the Pictish leaders. A scant four years later, the Scots' King Kenneth was able to claim the Pictish crown.
