We now present to you.. the best that Canadian music has to offer.. the future of the music industry.. the 2000 Juno Nominees! For those of you who don't know what the Junos are, they are the Canadian equivalent of the Grammys, basically a way awarding excellence for those in the Canadian music industry. For our non-Canadian readers, you may be surprised to find that many of your favorite artists are Canadian. I personnally find this year's Junos significant because Canadians were badly slighted at the Grammys, and this will give them an opportunity to show the world that Canadian artists are among, if not themselves, the best musicians in the world. The 2000 Junos will be presented Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th of March. This week, we look at the nominees, and next week at the winners (of course, only the rock-related categories). And now, without further ado, we present to you the nominees... may I have the envelope, please?...
Best Single: Bobcaygeon, Tragically Hip. Heaven Coming Down, Tea Party. Hello Time Bomb, Matthew Good Band. Steal My Sunshine, Len. Sucks to Be You, Prozzak. Now this is why I prefer the Junos over the Grammys: the abundance of rock/alternative nominees. Do you remember what the Grammys had in "Best Single"? Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and a whole bunch of other soulless, uninspired, seemingly mass-produced pop artists. At least up here in the Great White North, music means something. Who Should Win: I'm biased, since I love the Hip, but I truly think that Matthew Good Band should win. Why, if they're going to pick a Prozzak song, would they pick "Sucks to Be You"? Oh well... Who will win: The Hip are too old, hip-hop will never win in Canada, sadly, and the Tea Party and too scary. Matthew Good Band should come away the winners. Best Album: Hot Show, Prozzak. On A Day Like Today, Bryan Adams. Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, Alanis Morisette. These Are Special Times, Celine Dion. Tuesday's Child, Amanda Marshall. Who Should Win:Well, Bryan Adams is far too annoying, and the world is making all of us Canadians regret Celine Dion (we're sorry, already!). I'd have to go with Morisette, if only because she's the only one whose music has any meaning. Who Will Win: I think that Morisette will have no problem, except possibly Amanda Marshall. It will definetly be one of those two, however, as everyone is sick and tired of Dion and Adams. This one's still up in the air. Go To Page: 1 2
