 5. Pearl Jam, "Jeremy"

Pearl Jam had a hit with this combination of poetic lyrics and ballad score from their Ten album, one of the best of the 90s.

4. Limp Bizkit, "Nookie"

Limp Bizkit fused hip-hop lyrics and beats to a heavy metal guitar backbone. "Nookie" is a great example of this can sound.

3. Smashing Pumpkins, "Bullet With Butterfly Wings"

This song was one of the highlights of the incredibly successful Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness album released in 1995.

2. Green Day, "When I Come Around"

The best known Green Day song, this came from their Dookie album. The riff is one of the best known of all 90s' pop songs and won't soon be forgotten. All though the solo is lacking, its simplicity only accents the complexity of the rest of the song.

1. Nirvana, "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

The 1990s started off with a loud, thrashing rebirth of punk that swept across the continent, known as grunge. This is recognized as the best song- Q107 and "B" magazine both rated it as the best song of the century.
